Instant Catamaran

Secretary’s DayAfter I stopped working in January, I had a lot of extra time on my hands. I also needed some place to be a few days a week while the housekeepers came to clean Mike’s apartment. I solved the problem by volunteering my ex-teacher services to Molly. I got to hang out at her apartment, cook in her kitchen, and do the “fun” things that teachers never have time for… like making posters or class books. It was pretty enjoyable. I mean, I got to cut out laminate while watching movies and still feel helpful and productive.

To thank me, even though she didn’t need to, Molly took me on a catamaran tour. She insisted on treating me by saying, “The boss always pays on Secretary’s Day!” and then we both started giggling.

Here are a few instax shots from Molly’s camera. The film was exposed to the sun so the color is off in a few shots.

World’s best boss.

Instant Color Fight

Quite the spectacle. Before leaving Abu Dhabi, my friends and I had a color fight on the beach at sunset. Needless to say, we turned a few heads.

Bits and Pieces.

A couple of things.

1. I added a new button on my sidebar for instant photos. Just click on “Instax” and it will take you to all the posts with photos from my Fuji Instax camera. (Oh, and if you haven’t clicked through in the last two weeks or so… there’s been another new redesign!)

2. I thought all my subscription settings were ok after changing urls, but it seems like there are a few little issues. My Bloglovin’ subscribers seem to have disappeared so I added a little button on the sidebar if you’d like to follow that way. I also added a followers widget if you’d like to follow via Google Friend Connect. Those of you hanging out in Google Reader seem to be ok but sometimes the posts show up a few hours late. Let me know if any other issues are happening!

3. My photo was featured yesterday at Twenty-Something Travel. Go take a look!

Instant Grand Mosque

Never disappoints.I recently visited the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque for the fifth time. I can’t get enough.

Since I already have plenty of digital photos of the mosque, I opted to bring my instant camera instead.

All that to say I have a guest post up at Inspiring Travellers today! It’s all about how to be a respectful visitor at the mosque. I wish I could make all those ladies wearing tank tops that I saw in the parking lot read it.

Please go check it out!

Larger than life.

And up close and personal. So, sometimes it can be a bit boring here in Abu Dhabi in terms of cultural events. And then something awesome will come.Like… a giant photo booth installed by French artist JR, the TED Prize winner for 2011! Watch his TED Prize Wish speech here.

JR is famous for posting large black and white images of faces in public places. Two projects I think are especially fascinating are the Face2Face installation in Israel and Palestine, and Women are Heroes, which has now become a film.

Now Mike and I have giant black and white photos of our very own! It was so much fun, we went twice.

He caught me mid-hair flip.

I have to say, I’m pretty impressed with Abu Dhabi on this one.

PS. I went to see the former president of Ghana speak last night. That was pretty cool too.

It’s a bird! It’s a plane!

It’s Jetman!
Several weeks ago a few friends informed Mike and I that Jetman was in town. We didn’t really know what that meant, but decided to head down to the Corniche anyways.

Turns out Jetman, Yves Rossy, is the only person in the “history of aviation to fly with a jet-propelled wing.” Kind of awesome. From down below he only looked like a speck, but his website showcases some pretty amazing photos.

A unique career choice, to be sure.
