From the Hip Friday

Gotcha.

Today’s photo from the hip comes from Tony at 20 Years Hence. If that blog sounds familiar it’s because Tony’s wife was featured here a few weeks ago. These two are currently 5 months into their amazing round the world trip, taking beautiful photos as they go.

Tony snapped this photo in Kamakura, Japan while visiting the money washing shrine (Zeniarai Benten). You’ve got to love this boy’s face. I think he’s on to you!

Thanks, Tony!

Pepsi Lady.

Today’s photo from the hip comes from Emy at Emy in the World. Emy taught in the sandbox (Abu Dhabi) last year but is now settling down to life in Chicago. Her blog is full of lovely art projects and thoughtful quotes. I hope you’ll take a look.

Emy snapped this photo while passing by on the bus in Budhanilkantha, Nepal. In Emy’s words, “There’s something about the juxtaposition of the woman in bright traditional clothing under the Pepsi sign, then the trash in the street next to greener-than-green natural scenery that I find layered and appealing.” I must agree.

Thanks, Emy!

Shrine.

Today’s photo from the hip comes from Steph at 20 Years Hence. Steph and her husband are currently on a round the world trip that began in Japan. Make sure you visit their blog to read incredibly detailed descriptions of their travels; everything from what they ate to what they spent.

Steph snapped this photo from the hip at the Fushimi Inari shrine in the outskirts of Kyoto. She was taken in by the couple’s traditional dress and fascination with the pillars. I’m fascinated with the pillars too, particularly that stone pillar amongst all the orange ones.

Thanks, Steph!

Telephone pole.

Today’s photo from the hip comes from Molly. She snapped this photo on the busy streets of Chittagong, Bangladesh. We were zipping around the city in the cage-like passenger area of a baby taxi.  Because our taxi drivers never got us to our desired destination on the first try, we were able to see quite a bit of the city.

Thanks, Molly!

The lookout.Today’s photo from the hip is from a lookout in Katoomba, Australia. I’m not 100% sure, but I think these men are dressed in the Greek Orthodox tradition. Does anyone know? I liked seeing the contrast in clothing between these men and the other tourists. We were all there to do the same thing, just dressed a bit differently.
