Bits and Pieces.

A couple of things.

1. I added a new button on my sidebar for instant photos. Just click on “Instax” and it will take you to all the posts with photos from my Fuji Instax camera. (Oh, and if you haven’t clicked through in the last two weeks or so… there’s been another new redesign!)

2. I thought all my subscription settings were ok after changing urls, but it seems like there are a few little issues. My Bloglovin’ subscribers seem to have disappeared so I added a little button on the sidebar if you’d like to follow that way. I also added a followers widget if you’d like to follow via Google Friend Connect. Those of you hanging out in Google Reader seem to be ok but sometimes the posts show up a few hours late. Let me know if any other issues are happening!

3. My photo was featured yesterday at Twenty-Something Travel. Go take a look!

Quick note.

To the person who found my blog by googling “arab butt cheeks” …

Sorry to disappoint you!

Take a look up top.

Three things to note.

1. Take a look up top. I have a new url! The old one should redirect here so old links and subscriptions should still be intact. Please let me know if you find broken links or I don’t show up in your reader!

2. I officially leave the UAE for good on June 5th. I think I’m okay with that.

3. I went on a hot air balloon ride last month. But that story will have to wait.

A few things.

Very quickly.

1. Kelsi at Some Sojourns posted an interview with me on her blog. You can read my thoughts on teaching and life in Abu Dhabi right here. And make sure you say hello to Kelsi while you’re there!

2. I updated my blog design so you should poke around a little bit and let me know what you think! I’m going crazy trying to get my new favicon to appear!

3. Here’s another little collage of Instagram photos courtesy of Mike’s phone. These shots are from Laos.

Frilly Thai

A new in-home Thai restaurant.

A few weeks before leaving for Thailand I suddenly got a big idea. I should throw a fundraising Thai dinner for the Thai Child Development Foundation! That’s sort of a big undertaking when you have little experience cooking Thai food and don’t even have your own apartment to host it. Thankfully, Frances agreed to help. Not only does she have a beautiful apartment, she’s also taken Thai cooking lessons. Score!

After discussing the menu and budget with Frances, I set to work making it all happen. The timeline was short. It was about a week between conception and execution. Considering how anxious I started to get, that was probably a good thing.

When our guests arrived we kept them busy with drinks and a coloring contest. Who doesn’t love to color?

Frances was the head chef for the evening. I played the part of sous chef and waitress. We decided to call our venture Frilly Thai. (Frances + Jilly)

The meal consisted of Tom Yum soup, make your own spring rolls, pad thai, and bananas in coconut milk for dessert (not pictured).

We even played a little “Pin the Trunk on the Elephant.”

I suppose it’s a little weird to praise your own party, but I honestly thought it was pretty awesome. The food was delicious and the guests were generous. Frances’s apartment truly felt like a little Thai restaurant.

In the end, with the addition of donations from my family, I was able to raise $400 for the Thai Child Development Fun. Not too bad.

Thanks to everyone who attended, Frances for helping me host, and Molly for being our photographer!

To Molly

On her 29th birthday.

Happy Birthday to the friend who…

…isn’t afraid to get dirty.
…listens with great care.
…is full of ambitious ideas.

…has joined or invited me on many, many adventures.

…has a silly side that sometimes overtakes her.
…made lemonade out of one great big fat lemon.
